Software is a human endeavor

Building software means gathering many kinds of information and making decisions inside a web of dependencies between code and the people who write it. My research draws on theories of human behavior (cognitive biases, information foraging, education theory, transactive memory) and on empirical studies to design AI-infused, inclusive tools that help professional developers, students, and end-user programmers work better and make fewer errors. The work spans AI, data mining, cognitive science, program analysis, visualization, and HCI.
